Certification Course
Part D: Medical-Fitness Training (LM:35-38)

Learning Module 38-B:
Review of Strength Training Exercises
Leg-Raises
Know how to do, and how to instruct others to do, leg-raises.
(Watch the video on Youtube.)

Leg-Raise Instructions:
  • Sit on the floor with your legs together and straight
  • Place your hands behind or lateral to your hips
  • Lay back into the supine position
  • Your hands may be either flat under the hips or to the side (whichever is more comfortable)
  • Start be hovering your feet just above the floor
  • Lift your legs by flexing your thighs while keeping your legs straight at the knees
  • Stop flexing your thighs when your legs are vertical (straight up, perpendicular to the floor)
  • Return to the starting position by lowering your legs
  • Complete when feet nearly reach the floor in the hovering position

Modify as needed:
  • Rest feet on the floor between reps
  • Do "tucks," by flexing the lower-leg down as the thighs (hips) are flexed up
  • Alternate legs, doing 1 leg at a time
  • Rest the feet on an elevated surface in the starting position
