Study:
  • 156 clinically depressed and sedentary persons.
  • Randomly divided into 2 therapy groups.
  • Medication-Only Group & Exercise-Only Group.
  • Re-evaluated after 16 weeks of therapy.

Depression improved in both groups equally.

Exercise is as effective as anti-depressant medication in treating Clinical Depression.

Mental abilities such as concentration, organization, planning, and memory were also evaluated
  • Mental Abilities improved only in the Exercise-Only Group.
  • The Medication-Only Group did not show improvement in Mental Abilities.

Conclusion: Recovery from Clinical Depression is better when treated with exercise than with medication.
