In this Practicum, you will learn how to complete the Aerobic Fitness Test section of the Med-Fit Assessment Form when using the 4-Minute Walk/Jog Test protocol for non-obese clients.
Your volunteer Client is needed for this Practicum.
Needed Equipment & Materials;
  • Your client's partially completed Med-Fit Assessment Form (from Practicum 39)
  • Clipboard
  • Pen
  • Timer
  • Calculator
  • Treadmill OR 6 Shuttle Cones
  • Score Interpretation & Follow-Up Timeframes Chart

1. Test Selection:
Picture
Format:
  • If possible, select the format that you did not use for the Walking Only Test (Practicum 40).
  • Circle the format that you are going to use: Treadmill or Shuttle.
  • The Track format is mainly for school-based Med-Fit Services - not covered in this course.

Minutes:
  • The Walk/Jog Test for non-obese (and otherwise fit enough) clients is a 4-minute Test.
  • Circle the number 4.
2. Test Preparation:
  • Be able to clearly explain to your client what he/she will do.
  • Make sure your client is comfortable by assuring him/her that this is a simple Walk/Jog Test (not a competition).
  • Emphasize that his/her test "Result" is a baseline that simply establishes his/her current Aerobic Fitness Level.
3. Conduct the Test:
  • Refer to Learning Modules 29 & 30 (for clients with a BMI < 35). Use links above.
Picture
Distance:
  • Record the distance that your client covered during his/her 4-minutes of walking/jogging.

Score:
  • Calculate and Record your clients Aerobic Fitness Score.
  • Round-off to the first decimal.
Note: Unlike the Walking Test Practicum (40), the TOTAL Med-Fit Score section is not included in this Practicum because the results of the Strength Tests still need to be obtained and included in the calculation of the Med-Fit Score for non-obese clients.
Keep this partially completed Med-Fit Assessment Form. You will use it in Practicum 42.
