In this Practicum, you will learn how to complete the Muscle Fitness Tests section of the Med-Fit Assessment Form.
Your volunteer Client is needed for this Practicum.
Needed Equipment & Materials;
  • Your client's partially completed Med-Fit Assessment Form (from Practicums 39 & 41)
  • Clipboard
  • Pen
  • Timer
  • Calculator
  • Exercise Mat
  • Inverted-Row Bar or Rings
  • Score Interpretation & Follow-Up Timeframes Chart

For clients who have a BMI less than 35 and are otherwise fit enough to do the 4-minute Aerobic Walk/Jog Test, their Medical-Fitness Assessment includes Muscle Fitness (Strength) Tests, which are timed AMRAP's of Squats, Leg-Raises, Push-Ups, and Inverted-Rows.​
1. Conduct the Leg Strength Test:

  • Grade your client's technique and Record.
  • Do not calculate the Reps or Score at this time.
  • Move on to the Core Strength Test.

2. Conduct the Core Strength Test:

  • Grade your client's technique and Record.
  • Do not calculate the Reps or Score at this time.
  • Move on to the Arm Strength Tests.

3. Conduct the Arm Strength Tests:

  • Grade your client's technique and Record.
  • Do not calculate the Reps or Score at this time.
3B. Conduct the Arm-Flexors Strength Test:
  • Record the Count.
  • Grade your client's technique and Record.
  • Do not calculate the Reps or Score at this time.
  • Move on to the Calculations.

4. Calculations:
  • Calculate the official Squat Reps based on your client's Grade.
  • Calculate your client's Leg Strength Score and Record.
  • Calculate the official Leg-Raise Reps based on your client's Grade.
  • Calculate your client's Core Strength Score and Record.
  • Calculate the official Push-Up Reps based on your client's Grade.
  • Calculate your client's Arm-Extensor Strength Score and Record.
  • Calculate the official Inverted-Row Reps based on your client's Grade.
  • Calculate your client's Arm-Flexor Strength Score and Record.
  • Calculate your client's combined (extensor and flexor) Arm Strength Score.

5. Interpretation:
  • ​Refer to the "Score Interpretation & Follow-Up Timeframes" chart.

The Med-Fit Score for clients that qualify for the 4-minute Walk/Jog Test includes his/her Aerobic Test Score and all 3 Strength Test Scores (Leg, Core, Arm).
  • Calculate your clients total (aka: general) Med-Fit Score.
  • Be sure to "double-weight" the Aerobic Score, add the 3 Strength Scores, and divide the sum by 5.
  • Record your client's Total Med-Fit Score as a Percentile (%).

Fitness Level:
  • Refer to the "Score Interpretation" part of the Chart.
  • Interpret and Record your client's Score as his/her Fitness Level.

Follow-Up:
  • Refer to the "Follow-Up Timeframes" part of the Chart.
  • Write the # of weeks you recommend for the client to Follow-Up.
  • The # of Training Sessions is addressed in Learning Module 43.
Date:
  • Write the approximate Date for your client's Follow-Up appointment.
  • Tip: Divide the # of weeks by 4 and count by Months from current Date.
  • Refer to a Calendar for specific Date selection.
  • This date is not a scheduled appointment.
  • Your clients will need to make an appointment for their Follow-Up when the Date nears.

6. Signature:

  • Print your full Name with credentials (MFT).
  • Sign your Name underneath or write your Initials to the right side.
Keep this completed Med-Fit Assessment Form. You will use it in Practicums 43-45.
